You mean people actually use them to park anywhere in your area?

People around here just park wherever the hell they want then give you dirty looks for it.

I thought that was the “I know we’re in traffic, but I’m going to put these on so everyone in the other lanes things I’m trying to merge into their lane, and thus making an even greater mess out of everything.” button...

I gave this tip to my a unt who is a TERRIBLE driver. In hopes that it will be easier for people to avoid her when she parks half on the sidewalk and half in the street at a 45 degree angle.

One time I pulled over just to make sure I had something that I was 80% sure was in my trunk. I was on a highway, and it was a foggy day, so I put the flashers on. Someone actually pulled over to ask if I needed help. Which impressed me. Then got a bit upset when I explained that I just needed to look for something.

I guess the thought hazards were only to let other motorists know that you need help. Like a roadside S.O.S.

I’m 99% sure that they are meant either to let others know that your vehicle is not moving with the flow of traffic(like if you have a mechanical issue), or to let them know that there might be some walking around the car while it’s on the shoulder.

I was behind a pickup towing a trailer on the highway that had them on yesterday. It was going 5-10 mph over the speed limit, no idea why they thought they were necessary.

Of course that sort of behavior is far from the worst, in Houston there were people who turned them on whenever it rained (but probably didn’t turn on their headlights) .

Yeah I odn’t mind when people put them on and they’re *in* the car, or at least visibly with the vehicle for loading/unloading, but to get out and leave them on in a not-a-spot is a d ick move.

Or the “there’s a road hazard ahead, so I’m going to turn on my flashers ‘for safety’ and give the impression that  I’M the road hazard that people should attempt to pass” button.

Only if you drive a van/pickup truck with company logos.

Also doubles as a “thanks for letting me merge” button.

Given the huge rise in those “gig-economy” (a.k.a. maybe one step above slave labor) jobs for food delivery and whatever I try to give people the benefit of the doubt.

Keep it brief, keep it (mostly) out of the way (e.g. don’t block a hydrant or wheelchair spaces) and I personally won’t care.
